See that your chief study be about heart, that there God's image may be planted, and his interest advanced, and the interest of the world and flesh subdued, and the love of every sin cast out, and the love of holiness succeed; and that you content not yourselves with seeming to do good in outward acts, when you are bad yourselves, and strangers to the great internal duties. The first and great work of a Christian is about his heart. – RICHARD BAXTER

One of the great errors throughout church history has been jumping the conclusion that we are in the end times in direct disobedience to the statement of our Lord that we will not know the day or the hour. This has ever since the Thessalonians led to aberrant behavior. It is important that we always alert and prepared for Christ's coming but avoid those who would try to behave based on the assumption this must be the end times.

Theology matters, being biblical matters, growing in godliness matters. For the press sensationl headlines matter, but not biblical understanding. Sensational press over religious extremes is just so sad.

The scary part of this is that most American Evangelicals, on the theological level, are in agreement with these militia groups. It's just that these groups put some action to their guesswork interpretation. It's actually surprising that this type of stuff doesn't happen more often.
